AFSCME Florida Statement on Six More Recertification Wins Across State

Over the past three days, public service workers who make Florida happen every day voted overwhelmingly in six different recertification elections to retain their AFSCME union. These workers will continue to advocate for quality public services with a strong and protected voice on the job, ensuring their rights and freedoms don’t end due to anti-worker efforts from elected officials in our state.
Workers at New College with AFSCME Local 591, voted 100% in favor of recertification. Workers at the City of Pinellas Park with AFSCME Local 762, voted 98% in favor of recertification. Workers at the Town of Bay Harbor Islands with AFSCME Local 966 voted 90% in favor of recertification. Workers at the City of Oakland Park with AFSCME Local 2526 voted 63% in favor of recertification. Workers at the University of Central Florida with Local 3345 voted 88% in favor of recertification. Workers at the City of Avon Park with AFSCME Local 3597 voted 100% in favor of recertification.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:
“The takeaway from these in-person and mail-in recertification elections is clear: Florida’s public employees are not going to sit idly by while their rights are dismantled. They know that the work they do is more than just a paycheck – it is about improving the places we live and the people we live with. That is why they will keep bargaining contracts to provide themselves and those they serve with what they need to thrive.”
